4. Day Has Now Begun
Part of the inspiration for these lyrics came from listening to early morning birdsong outside the Hermitage on the Center. Perhaps the rest, and the introspective tone of much of my music, stems from the mystery of my life as an adoptee. Here, resolution is found in the arms of “my fair Meher.”

Day Has Now Begun
Words and music by Darryl Smith, 2007
Day has now begun, dark night bows to sun.
The stars cover their eyes and the moon slips from the sky.
Birds awaken me with feverish song. Still I wonder where I belong.
My body’s heavy, my mind is numb. Only You know what I’ll become.
Refrain:
All I do is hold on to You all along the way.
All I do is hold on to You remember and obey.
Did you design this very moment? Did you plan for this?
Did you know my whole life long would be trembling, trembling for Your kiss?
It won’t be long said the dust on the ground. Just believe said the leaves on the trees.
Just keep strong I heard the wind resound. His love will bring you to your knees.
In spite of what I’ve been, in spite of what I am.
This longing grows and grows; It never seems to end!
Sometimes this pain seems so much, longing for Your touch!
Each lesson learned must be part of the story and take its place as such.
Day has now begun, dark night bows to sun.
The stars cover their eyes and the moon slips from the sky.
Birds awaken me with feverish song. And now I know where I belong.
In Your arms my fair Meher, may my home be always there!
